Alisa Bessire-Wooten has a BA in Political Science with a minor in French. She taught elementary school for several years, but now she focuses on homeschooling her 3 daughters. After her first birth, Alisa became passionate about education related to birth. She has volunteered for B.I.R.T.H. and been a member of ICAN of Houston/Galveston for 5 years. Alisa has been a co-leader of Houston/Galveston for 2 years and hopes to increase advocacy, education, and support in her community.
Imelda Reyes Smith: Ime is an active member of the birth community, and currently volunteers as a Co-Leader for ICAN of Houston/Galveston. Her most cherished role is the one of stay-at-home mother and, as of this year, teacher to her two daughters. Imelda has a BBA from Houston Baptist University, and before children worked in real estate, non-profit fundraising, and event planning. Her hope is that one day, through education, open dialogue and support, all women will feel empowered during pregnancy, childbirth, and motherhood.
