Jackie Griggs, RN, CNM has a Masters in Nursing, specializing in midwifery from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston (April 2001(Recipient of the Hazel Corbin Award (2001) from the Maternity Center Association of the United States (Award for best student midwifery research 2001) Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas in Galveston (1998) Documented by the Texas Department of Health as a midwife since 1990- Board certified lactation consultant (1995, IBCLC) Accredited La Leche League Leader since 1985 and Assisted with over 1,000 births in hospitals, birth centers, and homes. She has worked in a variety of settings: hospital Labor and Delivery, newborn nursery, clinics, private office, birth center, and home births, and water births. Past President (2005-2008), Association of Texas Midwives (ATM), Member since 1986. Currently serving on the Board of Directors of the American Association of Birth Centers. Founder of the coalition for birthing centers in texas and most important the Mother of 5 sons – 3 which were born at home. She is currently the owner of Bay Area Birthing Center
