Ellen Cohen worked as a midwife in New York City hospitals for more than two decades, delivering some 1,400 babies. She participated in research that led to the first breakthrough in preventing mother-to-child transmission of the AIDS virus.

She is author of the new book Laboring – Stories of a New York City Hospital Midwife.
